Fluency, reasoning and problem-solving. A coherent progression informed by White Rose Maths, with Foundation and Higher Tier pathways where appropriate.
Fluency. Reasoning. Problem-solving.
The five-year mathematics curriculum draws on the White Rose Maths secondary scheme of learning. Important concepts are revisited and developed over time. Teachers address prerequisite knowledge before building towards Foundation or Higher Tier GCSE work where appropriate.
The five-year sequence is a pathway, not a fixed entry requirement. Prior knowledge, current needs and intended outcomes determine where teaching begins.
From understanding to independent application.
Make ideas accessible
Clear vocabulary, worked examples and manageable steps support access without removing academic challenge.
Our seven pillars →Build secure knowledge
Guided practice and retrieval strengthen competence before support is gradually withdrawn.
Assessment and progress →Prepare for next steps
Where appropriate, learners transfer knowledge into GCSE-style questions and unfamiliar contexts.
Find a provision route →A five-year pathway. An individual starting point.
Selected curriculum themes from the formal five-year overview. This is a sequence of learning; the learner’s prior knowledge and intended outcomes determine their entry point.
Year 7 · Building foundations
Sequences, algebraic notation, expressions and equations, place value, number operations, fractions and percentages, data, area, speed and angles.
Year 8 · Connecting concepts
Ratio, proportion and scale; algebra and graphs; fractions; symmetry; area, volume and density; equations; indices; standard form; probability and circles.
Year 9 · Developing fluency and reasoning
Number properties, percentages, area and volume, formulae, rates, graphs, ratio, congruence, similarity, Pythagoras, probability and transformations. Simultaneous equations and trigonometry are optional blocks in the overview.
Year 10 · Foundation and Higher pathways
Algebra, equations and quadratics; ratio and percentages; probability; graphs; angles; vectors; factors, powers and surds; Pythagoras and trigonometry.
Year 11 · Consolidation and application
Ratio and proportion, area and volume, similarity, sequences and proof, standard form, circles, Venn diagrams, functions, rates, bearings, trigonometry, constructions and transformations. The plan distinguishes Foundation work with circles from Higher circle theorems.
