Science

Biology, Chemistry and Physics. Secure scientific knowledge, practical investigation and pathways towards Combined or Separate Sciences where appropriate.

Understanding the world scientifically.

Biology, Chemistry and Physics are carefully sequenced, with concepts revisited in increasing depth. Practical investigation, mathematical application and scientific vocabulary are embedded throughout. Combined and Separate Science pathways are available where appropriate.

The five-year sequence is a pathway, not a fixed entry requirement. Prior knowledge, current needs and intended outcomes determine where teaching begins.

From understanding to independent application.

Explain

Make ideas accessible

Clear vocabulary, worked examples and manageable steps support access without removing academic challenge.

Our seven pillars →
Practise

Build secure knowledge

Guided practice and retrieval strengthen competence before support is gradually withdrawn.

Assessment and progress →
Apply

Prepare for next steps

Where appropriate, learners transfer knowledge into GCSE-style questions and unfamiliar contexts.

A five-year pathway. An individual starting point.

Selected curriculum themes from the formal five-year overview. This is a sequence of learning; the learner’s prior knowledge and intended outcomes determine their entry point.

Year 7 · Introducing ideas

The human body: cells, organisation and respiration. Humans in the environment: climate, carbon and water cycles, atmosphere and photosynthesis. Exploring the universe: space, forces, satellites and the electromagnetic spectrum.

Year 8 · Introducing ideas

Genetics: reproduction, inheritance, disease and evolution. Building the universe: the periodic table, bonding, structure and properties. Powering the planet: magnetism, electromagnetism and energy resources.

Year 9 · Developing and connecting ideas

Biology: cells, organisation, infection and bioenergetics. Physics: energy, electricity, particles and atomic structure. Chemistry: atoms, bonding, quantitative chemistry, chemical and energy changes.

Year 10 · Extending understanding

Biology: homeostasis, inheritance, variation, evolution and ecology. Physics: forces, waves, magnetism and electromagnetism. Chemistry: rates, organic chemistry, analysis, atmosphere and resources. Additional Triple Science content is included where appropriate.

Year 11 · Applying ideas

Consolidation and synoptic work across all three sciences, additional Triple Science content where appropriate, required-practical review, exam technique, problem-solving and independent revision.
